It’s the People: Rhona Vogt

Rhona Vogt

Studio RED Promotes Architect to Senior Associate

Hailing from above the Mason-Dixon line, Rhona Vogt has been involved in architecture for 14 years and relocated from Buffalo, New York in 2012 to join Studio RED.

Discovering Her Passion: You could say it was love at first sight. Rhona only discovered her talent for art by accident in an undergraduate drawing class at Ithaca College. She fell in love with architecture during her extensive postgraduate travels. Upon her return home, she embarked on her new course of architectural studies and received her Masters at the University of Buffalo.

Joining Studio RED: “I felt I had a good fit with Studio RED, in terms of the projects I had previously worked on and what I could bring to the firm.” Rhona has been involved in a number theater projects such as, Main Street Theater, AD Players and Mt. Crested Butte Performing Arts Center along with multiple worship facilities. When asked, her most exciting project so far has been the Alley Theatre: “What was really interesting about working on that particular project was using BIM, or building information modeling, technology and being able to coordinate with all our consultants so easily during that process.”

How She Does It: Rhona describes her design process as akin to, “putting a very intricate puzzle together. Every day there’s always a new task to be solved, and that’s my favorite part.”

Right Place, Right Time: It hasn’t taken long for Rhona and her family to make themselves at home in Houston and she is especially pleased with her timing: “Moving to this dynamic city, where so much is going on in terms of construction and the changes within the city fabric; to be involved in that is very exciting for me and it’s been a real pleasure.” In her spare time, Rhona and her husband work in their vegetable garden and enjoy spending time with their two daughters, ages five and four.

Professional Affiliations: American Institute of Architects (AIA), Texas Society of Architects (TSA), Association of Preservation Technology (APT)
