DATE COMPLETED: 2013

After working diligently with parish leadership for nearly four years, Studio RED completed a worship center and narthex expansion for the catholic community at St. John Neumann in north Houston. The expanded worship center accommodates nearly 1,100 seats, enlarged public facilities, and increased ministry areas. The project team worked closely with parish pastor Monsignor Seth Hermoso to survey parishioners and identified their priorities for meeting ministry needs. These priorities were guiding principles for the development of a master plan and program for the renovation of the worship space.

The existing worship center, originally constructed in 1980, was expanded by nearly 4,000 sf to accommodate the increased seating capacity as well as a new day chapel, enlarged narthex, new public restrooms and additional ministry spaces. It was essential for the liturgical elements of the facility to be consistent with the ministerial principles of the Diocese, including a new working sacristy and full immersion baptistry, both with operating dry wells. The existing audio/visual and lighting systems were upgraded to include current technology. The worship space was fitted with new pews and liturgical furniture. Extensive work was done to correct maintenance issues stemming from the original construction.

The HVAC system was also overhauled to meet the needs of the enlarged space and the current standards
for energy efficiency.
