St. Martha Catholic Church Celebrates Consecration of Unique Chapel Addition
KINGWOOD, TEXAS — St. Martha Catholic Church recently celebrated the consecration of their new chapel addition located at 4301 Woodridge Parkway. The unique chapel, designed by Studio RED Architects and built by Arch-Con Construction, seats 250 people in pews and an additional 25 people in loose chairs.
Features include a main Altar at the Sanctuary, six Prayer Niches for individual prayer inside the chapel, a sloped ceiling at the Nave painted with a mural representing a celestial sky, as it appeared at Jesus Christ’s birth, vaulted and arched ceilings at the Sanctuary, a platform above the Nave entry doors for the pipe organ, Working Sacristy, Vesting Sacristy, Narthex, restrooms and additional support spaces. The new chapel is part of the second phase of construction for St. Martha Catholic Church.
The Studio RED team, along with the church’s Liturgical Design Committee, partnered together to create a space that would engage and support families, drawing them into deeper community with God and one another. With a focus on both Eucharist and Mary, a Sacred Space was created utilizing simple materials including stone walls and floors to foster a place for contemplation and prayer.
Studio RED Partner Trung Doan, AIA, emphasizes that, “Partnering with St. Martha Catholic Church to design the Holy Family Chapel was such a privilege. As a Catholic, it is always exciting to work on a church, but getting to design an intimate chapel for daily Eucharistic Celebration and Prayer was special.”
