Trendy New Restaurant Opens in Sawyer Yards
Studio RED is excited to once again partner with Irish restaurateur Ian Tucker to open trendy, new Poitín this month. Tucker is no stranger to the Houston restaurant scene, recently launching Balls Out Burger in the Heights. The new, 8,000-sf Poitín will be sited within Sawyer Yards in the Washington Avenue Arts District. The space includes a bar, private dining rooms and a 1,200-sf patio with downtown skyline views. An elegant design aesthetic fosters a lively atmosphere for patrons. Opening date is set for mid May.
Principal in Charge, Micah Simecek of Studio RED, notes that “it’s been a pleasure to work with Ian again to design and develop this restaurant concept. He has a clear vision and is passionate about the project, making it easy for us to create unique design solutions.”
The restaurant is set in a mid-century, dock-height metal warehouse. The design team worked diligently to maintain the existing industrial aesthetic while creating a warm, inviting space. The primary challenge was bringing the eye level down from the 28-feet-high ceilings to a more comfortable height. This was achieved through a series of finished wood ceilings, wing walls, and catwalk-type clouds, all creating layers of transparency and reducing the vastness of the space. One distinguishing feature the restaurant boasts is unfiltered views of the downtown Houston skyline, so the design team preserved these views from every seat in the dining room and bar.
