Studio RED was selected to design a new recreation center for the Avalon at Cypress Community in Cypress, Texas. The modern design-inspired center serves as a gateway to meeting areas, an outdoor lounge, a pool, and play areas. A wide, open breezeway splits the building, passing directly to the pool and separating a 1,500-square-foot meeting room from the open lounge areas. The poolside of the building provides support with restrooms, storage, and an enclosed pool equipment room.

The flexible meeting room integrates natural light through windows and clerestories and connects to the amenity lake and trails, a warming kitchen, seating areas, and storage. A covered outdoor room on the opposite side of the breezeway features indirect natural light provided by sail-inspired skylights, along with a large open patio with lounge areas that directly connect to outdoor play, a tennis court, trails, and a fire pit. All these elements provide the community with a programmatic hub for engagement and recreation.
