Studio RED was selected by Diamond Head Theatre to design a new 17,000-sf theater seating 500 patrons, demolish the existing theater and renovate the existing support areas. The existing theater was originally built as a movie theater in the 1930s and lacked modern theatrical abilities, or space for the theater’s needs. The project features a full flyloft, added restroom facilities, dedicated administrative office space, expanded box office and concessions, additional rehearsal halls, a new dressing room and green room areas, upgraded scene and costume shops, and additional back of house areas. Working with Diamond Head Theatre, Studio RED created a phased construction plan, allowing the existing theatre to maintain functionality during construction of the new theater.
