Studio RED was selected to work with Duchesne Academy to design and construct a new science building and libraries addition. The project includes 29,000 sf of new construction/additions and 7,000 sf of renovations to an existing classroom/administration building.

The new addition includes upper school science labs, classrooms, middle school and upper school libraries, kitchen/servery, dining hall expansion and renovation, and student support space. The science labs combine classrooms and labs in one room, allowing for traditional lectures as well as interactive experiments. The space accommodates a flexible science curriculum ranging from biology and physics to chemistry and environmental sciences and robotics.

Studio RED understood the importance of the Academy’s preparatory curriculum so the team implemented the “information commons” concept for the new library areas for Duchesne. This model has been successfully executed at Emory University and the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign merging traditional library services (books, periodicals, reference desks) with advanced technology (computers, multi-media equipment) to promote collaboration.
