Studio RED was selected to work with the SEARCH Homeless Services program to design and construct a new childcare facility for 80 children. The nationally accredited early childhood education program provides a developmentally appropriate early childhood education for toddler and preschool age children. This facility is based on the Reggio Emilia approach which includes nutritious meals; education; intensive art; play and speech therapy to help fulfill the student’s needs. The architecture supports the program with wood interiors, exposed structure, and large operable windows. In addition, there is 2,500 sf of covered, exterior deck for outdoor instruction that compliments the four classrooms, art studio and commons area. The landscape includes an adventure play courtyard, artists court, and central playground developed around mature shade trees. The Dowling Street Elevation was developed to compliment the Project Row House Campus and TIRZ’s Redevelopment Strategy.
