The new Athletics Center for The John Cooper School has raised the bar for facilities that support the fitness and development of student athletes. The new three-story facility creates additional space for fitness programming and strength training, expanding upon current facilities while knitting them together as a cohesive part of the campus. Tucked into the bank of a hill, the facility tightly abuts the existing competition field and track while also physically connecting to the existing competition gym with a sky bridge. The placement of the building was strategy to connect outdoor and indoor sports with a facility that is utilized by all athletes. Locker room facilities are placed on the lowest level to take advantage of direct connections to the track and field. Strength training and team meeting spaces are located on the main level with easy access to the campus, while cheer and fitness studios are located on the upper level. The location of key training facilities along the east side of the building captures impressive views of the field and wooded setting of the campus while also allowing for multiple uses outside of fitness education such as hosting school and spirit events. The building also provides an outdoor plaza that expands public space adjacent to the existing bleachers for game day events. Throughout the facility, branded finishes and graphics capture the spirit of pride and achievement of the students the building serves.
